Monday, October 2nd will be Amnesty International’s 4th general meeting in GEA 114 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM! We will be discussing the detainment of Ola Al-Qaradawy and Hossam Khalaf. These two UT alumni have been held in solitary confinement since July 3rd without a bed, toilet, clean water, or sufficient nutrition. By joining us on Monday you can learn how you can personally make an impact on this case and help Amnesty in its efforts to place Ola and Hossam in humane conditions until a fair trial has been conducted.
On October 11th, Amnesty will be collaborating with Texas Rising to host a town hall style discussion for International Day of the Girl! Join us in the SAC, room 1.106 at 5:30 PM for a discussion about feminist issues on campus. Learn more about sexual assault, gender binary issues, and intersectionality from UT staff and students! (We’ll have FREE Tiff’s Treats too!)
Also, keep an eye out for updates on the March to Abolish the Death Penalty! Amnesty will be attending and marching with other protesters on October 28th, 2 PM at the Texas Capitol. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the day of the event!
Hey everyone! Our second general meeting will be Monday September 18th from 6-7pm in GEA 114. At our meeting we will be talking about immigrant rights, including updates on SB 4 and DACA, and what we as Amnesty International can do. You can go to the Facebook event for more information.
We hope to see you all there!
We hope everyone had a great summer and we can’t wait to see you all at our first meeting!
For the fall semester, our meetings are every Monday from 6:00pm-7:00pm in Gearing Hall (GEA) 114. Come out to make your voice heard and take action on human rights abuses occurring in the United States and around the world.
Hey everyone, this is the official announcement for the UT Chapter of Amnesty International’s yearly Jamnesty event! We will be regularly updating this page as we get closer to the event.
There will be ongoing performances by local artists throughout the night and we’ll have multiple petitions supporting our theme this year, intersectional feminism. Other UT campus orgs will also be hosting different booths and events. Food and drinks will be available for purchase and you can win some cool prizes too!
So come check it out and bring your friends! Support a good cause and meet new people. All proceeds will go to support Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera (ATFC), which works to raise awareness about social and economic injustices along the Texas/Mexico border, particularly as they effect women workers.
DATE: April 12th
TIME: 6pm to 9:30pm
WHERE: Gregory Plaza
If you have any questions or want to get involved and participate in Jamnesty, please contact our event coordinator Danin Yorn at email@example.com

First, we want to thank you all for attending our informational meeting* for the Spring 2015 semester. We’re excited to be back, and we’ve got a lot planned in the coming months.
*If you missed that info meeting this past tuesday (January 27th), you can always check out our Twitter & Facebook (links to the right) and our “About” page (left) to get a sense of how we operate. Our officers will also table most days of this month, so look for our bright yellow banner and ask away.
Our general meetings will always be held on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm in BEN 1.122 (Benedict Hall).
At every meeting, we’ll focus (after a little socializing) on a particular human rights issue. These topics will be updated on our “general meetings” page (left), or, if you join our Facebook group, you’ll be able to see each week’s topic from the facebook event invitations.
We are very excited to start a new year of Texas Amnesty!
Come learn about our chapter and how to get involved at our information session, to be held on Tuesday, September 2nd at 7pm in BEN 1.108. We will give an overview of Amnesty International and what our chapter does on campus!
We will also be out tabling throughout the first week of classes. Stop by to say hi and check us out!
